The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana is set to pick suppliers for the new voters’ registration kits to compile a new register.
According to the EC, current kits are outdated and needed to embark on new registration to bring the commission to speed on the way forward ahead of the next election in December this year.
Speaking on Kessben FM Democracy and monitored by TVNEWSGH.COM, the Director of Elections at the EC, Dr. Serebour Quacoo, says, the commission is in touch with four (4) companies to award the contract to provide the biometric machines for the exercise.
“If you understand how we award a contract, we have already shortlisted four companies including two Ghanaian companies to select one who will supply us the kits”
“Per our time table, the BVD machines must be ready by March, April 18 we start registration” he added
“We have done all the analysis including risk analysis and it is positive for the commission to go for new biometric machines to conduct this year’s general elections”
Dr. Serebour indicated that by June, 2020 it is the wish that the provisional new voters’ register will be out.
The commission said the compilation of a new voters’ register and acquisition of Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) would only boost the credibility and integrity of the elections.
Reacting to the meeting with the IPAC and Eminent Advisory Committee, he intimate d that the meeting cannot stop their mandated work to get a credible voters’ register for credible election.
“We are only going to explain further to them where they do not understand” he said
He therefore urged the good people of Ghana to trust the body who is in charge of the management of the Ghana’s electoral process and they would let this country down.
