We, the Disabled Citizens of Ghana (DCG) have learned with shock the callous and cold-hearted manner in which some members of the National Democratic Congress have been indirectly mocking people with disabilities.
Social media platforms, we have learned, are awash with comments and opinions from members of the opposition party making mockeries of the disability-friendly footbridge being constructed on the Adentan-Madina highway which would facilitate our easy movements.
Felix Kwakye-Ofosu, one of the aides to former President John Dramani Mahama, on his Facebook timeline, unsympathetically attacked us. Mr. Ofosu-Kwakye had this on his Facebook wall;
“Proposed name for Madina footbridge: JB Danquah Madina-Adenta Health and Fitness walkway”
We find his comments on the footbridge to be uncouth, irresponsible and unfeelingly insensitive.
Mr. Mahama’s aide holds the view that it is a tragic waste of time and resources for the physically challenged to be given priority, and this, we find to be unfortunate and repugnant.
For reasons we are yet to be introduced to, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu and his friends are questioning the government of the day over the need to construct a footbridge that will serve our interest. To him and his friends, we do not matter in the scheme of things simply because we cannot walk the way they do!
This description, as well as many others courtesy would not allow us to repeat, are not only appalling but also inhuman, putting it bluntly.
To this end, we demand an unqualified apology from former President Mahama’s aide, Felix Kwakye-Ofosu and the leadership of the NDC for sitting aloof while their party members have been denigrating us over this matter.
It is important for us to tell the NDC that we are as humans as they are, and would not allow their party surrogates to insult our intelligence.
We, therefore, give Ofosu-Kwakye and the NDC 24 hours to unequivocally apologize to us or face our wrath!
