A five-year-old boy got drowned in a gutter while playing at Tano Odumase in Afigya Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region.
The sorrowful incident followed the heavy rainfall which occurred on Friday May 15, 2020 around 2:O’Clock in the afternoon.
Speaking to Ali-BaBa Dankanbarry on Kessben Fm Saturday 16th May 2020, the district NADMO Director Mr George Akwasi Kyempe said, the deceased was playing with his slippers in the flood and he accidentally fell when the boy attempted to remove his slippers from the flood in the process of playing.
“Our findings indicated that, Darling Opoku (deceased) and friends were playing in the flood with their slippers during the raining and when the flood took the slippers, he tried to get it back which unfortunately the flood took him by surprise to the big gutter ” he said.
The mother of the deceased, Madam Adwoa Achiaa who could not control her tears, said Darling Opoku had gone to his grandmother before the rain not knowing he is playing outside until a neighborhood reported the incident to her.
” He told me he is going to see his grandmother and he didn’t come to house until i heard a shout from outside that my child is flooded. I didn’t believe so i was searching for him till they described the red shirt he took outside. I went outside and found my boy lifeless” she said.
The grandmother confirmed that prior to the rain, the toddler came to look for his slippers and returned and she thought that, he had gone to his mother.
The body of the child has been deposited at Zion Praise mortuary at Asomanso Nkwanta, a nearby town.
