The NDC Member of Parliament for Asunafo South Constituency in the Ahafo Region, Hon. Eric Opoku has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government of stealing the NDC’s policies on Agric to better their lot.
According to him, it is the NDC government’s policy on Agric that they (NPP) have stolen even though they claim NDC was incompetent while in power. Meanwhile NPP have not been able to produce a single policy to promote agriculture under their regime.
Speaking in an interview with OB of Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen, a political program aired on Thursday 25th July, 2019, the MP noted that paragraph 373 of the NPP’s 2017 budget statement on Coffee was a direct copy by the NPP from the NDC’s 2016 budget statement.
“Why will the competent NPP government copy everything from the incompetent NDC?” he questioned.
Mr. Eric Opoku who speaks for the Minority on the Agric Committee in Parliament indicated, that the Nana Addo-led government has exhibited gross mismanagement of the agric sector, putting farming in a very sad state.
“Farmers are suffering so much under President Akufo Addo” he reiterated
In an interaction which was monitored by TVNEWSGH.COM, Hon. Opoku added that Former President Mahama built over 23 cocoa schools to support the farmers. Even though the projects have been completed, Nana Addo has refused to commission them.
“We provided 117 solar powered borehole to farmers across the cocoa growing areas, some of them have broken down but the government is not paying attention to them” .
Hon. Eric Opoku was of the believe that President Akufo Addo was deceived to have said that Manama did not do any thing to promote the agric sector.
He said looking at the trend now, if care is not taken, the cocoa processing companies may import cocoa into the country because the Produce Buying Companies (PBC) cannot get money to buy cocoa.
This development he said, will have the tendency of insecurity on the cocoa farmers.
Hon. Eric Opoku therefore called on farmers and Ghanaians as a whole to wait patiently for former president Mahama comes to rescue them from the bad governance of the NPP.
