Thousands of traders of Kumasi Central Market embarked on peaceful demonstration against the authorities of Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly on Monday, February 8, 2021.

As part of addressing their displeasure, the traders stormed the office of the Regional Minister on decision taken by the KMA to evacuate them from their location.

According to the traders led by Richard Boamah General secretary for Kumasi Central Market traders, (KCMT) indicate that the decision by the authorities is unaware.

Amongst others, they argued that, the authorities have given the new Kejetia Market to traders who are not operating in the stores.

The traders were of the view that, either the authorities will reconsider their decision to allow them to use their current trading site or recollect the white elephant shops from the owners to serious traders.

Other market women also alleged that some prominent persons within the Assembly have sold the Kejetia shops for their personal use.
