President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo has maintained his stance in the fight against illegal mining regardless of promises by the opposition National Democratic Congress to return seized excavators to the miners.
Addressing Nananom at Manso Nkwanta as part of his tour in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday December 1,2020, Nana Akufo Addo admitted that the ban of the illegal mining is not favouring the residents of the area but for the well-being of Ghanaians and the future generation he will never rescind his decision.
Added that there is strong backlash and all sorts of promises from the NDC party yet still his fight against the menace remains unchanged since he can not sit down and watch on as activities of illegal miners continue to deteriorate the land.
“In the days of our forefathers, they engaged in mining but they did it in a sustainable way which did not disturb the land or water bodies. I will not support illegal mining which will destroy the environment. My decision remains the same, where I am on this fight remains unchanged.
“We are going to roll out the community mining and my government is working hard on it” he stressed.
President Akufo Addo mentioned that the constituency has suffered infrastructures deficit for years but his administration has begun a number of programmes which has directly and indirectly affected the constituents and that calls for another term of office.
The NPP flagbearer as part of his visit in the constituency further commissioned 100 beds capacity hospital at Manso Nsiana established by the member of Parliament of the area Hon Albert Quarm.
Among others, President Akufo Addo on his second day in the Region commissioned Bodukwan multi fruit processing factory at Sabin Akrofrom in Atwima Kwawonma district where he promised the management of the company the needed incentives for their operation.
