The NPP Constituency Secretary of Asante Mampong, Agyei Malik has emphatically stated, that the Party will protect the member of Parliament Hon. Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong to go unopposed in the coming NPP parliamentary primaries.

Malik noted that “ the executives, patrons, council of elders and other bodies in the constituency have already resolved to allow the MP to go uncontested. So Chairman Wontumi only came to affirm our decision “.

According to the secretary, the MP has done so much for the constituents within the three years that he has represented them in Parliament and that has made the party so attractive to the people.

Speaking to Kofi Asante on Nhyira FM and monitored by TVNEWSGH.COM, indicated that he as officer of the party will always support the MP in any way.

“It is my duty to work for the person the party has elected to represent it in Parliament but not the one who wants to come” he added.

He noted that the decision to ensure Hon. Ampratwum goes uncontested does not come from him alone. “ When a decision is taken by a party, I don’t have any right to challenge it”.

Agyei Malik also assured that the MP is not afraid of any competition from any quarters going into the primaries, if that happens, but it is the decision of the constituency party that he goes unchallenged.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of NPP Mr. Antwi Boasiako has earlier declared the MP for Asante Mampong unopposed in the coming NPP parliamentary primaries. His declaration has caused a lot of uproar and disaffection among party members in the constituency.

Meanwhile, some groups in Asante Mampong Constituency have warned Wontumi to desist from making such unguarded statements, warning him that, he cannot impose a candidate on them.
